FD60 fire doors: our service in Nuneaton
From the CV11 postcode district outwards, we take on FD60 fire doors across Nuneaton for homes, blocks and workplaces.
In and around Nuneaton, fire door work covers everything from care homes to houses with integral garages. We plan each job around the people who use the building.
Before ordering FD60 doors for a Nuneaton building, we check the rating each opening actually needs, because over-specifying makes doors heavier and dearer. For FD60 work in Nuneaton we generally fit certified doorsets, so frame and leaf share the same test evidence.
Why FD60 installation is less forgiving
A 54mm leaf can weigh considerably more than a 44mm one. That weight drives everything else: more robust frames and fixings, hinges rated for the load, and a closer with enough power to close and latch the door without making it too heavy to open. Glazing, if any, must use a 60-minute glass and glazing system from the same test evidence.
Because of this, most FD60 openings are best done as a certified doorset, so the frame and leaf come with matching evidence.
As standard, the work covers:
- Check of the fire strategy rating for each opening
- Frame fixing and structural gap sealing recorded with photos
- Certified FD60 doorset or leaf with matching evidence
- 60-minute glazing systems where vision panels are needed
The regulations behind fire doors in Nuneaton
The rules that apply to fire doors in Nuneaton are England's. The responsible person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 must keep fire doors in non-domestic premises and the common parts of flats in working order; the Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed that this includes flat entrance doors onto common parts.
Where a Nuneaton block is above 11 metres, regulation 10 of the 2022 regulations means communal doors are checked every three months and flat entrance doors annually on a best-endeavours basis. Replacement doors must also satisfy the Building Regulations, with Approved Document B as the guidance most building control bodies work from.

Questions from Nuneaton
Is Nuneaton within your coverage area?
It is. We cover Nuneaton in Warwickshire and neighbouring towns such as Bedworth. There is no charge for the survey.
Can you work from an existing inspection report for my Nuneaton building?
Yes. Send it over and we can often price straight from it, then confirm on site. We report back against the same door references so you can close actions off.
Can I upgrade an FD30 door to FD60?
Not by adding parts. An FD30 leaf cannot be turned into an FD60 door with extra strips or paint. If an opening needs 60 minutes, the leaf, and usually the frame, need to be replaced with a certified FD60 product.
Is FD60 just a thicker FD30?
No. FD60 doors are built and tested as a different product, usually with a thicker core, different seals and different ironmongery. Only the tested combination carries the 60-minute rating.
