FD60 fire doors: our service in Cumbria
Across Cumbria, from Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness, we survey, supply and fit FD60 fire doors for homes, blocks of flats and workplaces.
For FD60 work in Cumbria we generally fit certified doorsets, so frame and leaf share the same test evidence. Before ordering FD60 doors for a Cumbria building, we check the rating each opening actually needs, because over-specifying makes doors heavier and dearer.
Managing agents, landlords, schools, care providers, businesses and homeowners in Cumbria can all use one team for survey, supply, installation and evidence. We plan work around occupants and hand over a record for every door.
What do you hand over at the end?
For every FD60 opening we record the product and certificate reference, the gap measurements, the hinge and closer specification, how the frame was fixed and what was used to seal the frame-to-structure gap, with photographs before the architraves go on. That record is what your fire risk assessor or building control officer will ask for.
Fire door law for Cumbria properties
In Cumbria, as elsewhere in England, the starting point is the Fire Safety Order 2005: whoever controls a workplace or the shared parts of a residential block must make sure its fire doors work. When doors are replaced, the Building Regulations and Approved Document B set the standard the new work has to meet.
Blocks above 11 metres have a specific routine under regulation 10 of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022: quarterly checks of communal fire doors and annual best-endeavours checks of flat front doors. If your Cumbria building is a higher-risk building under the Building Safety Act 2022, we confirm the approval route with the Principal Accountable Person before any work is ordered.

- Install the frame, fix and seal it to the structure

Questions
Do you provide FD60 fire doors across Cumbria?
Yes. We cover all of Cumbria, including Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness. Surveys and written quotes are free.
Is FD60 just a thicker FD30?
No. FD60 doors are built and tested as a different product, usually with a thicker core, different seals and different ironmongery. Only the tested combination carries the 60-minute rating.
Can I upgrade an FD30 door to FD60?
Not by adding parts. An FD30 leaf cannot be turned into an FD60 door with extra strips or paint. If an opening needs 60 minutes, the leaf, and usually the frame, need to be replaced with a certified FD60 product.
