Fire door frames in Ayrshire: what's involved
Our fire door frames service runs throughout Ayrshire. Main towns include Kilmarnock, Ayr and Irvine, and we cover the smaller places in between.
Frame-to-wall gaps on Ayrshire jobs are sealed with materials supported by the test evidence, as BS 8214:2026 sets out. We photograph every frame we fix in Ayrshire before the architraves go on, so the hidden work is on record.
Managing agents, landlords, schools, care providers, businesses and homeowners in Ayrshire can all use one team for survey, supply, installation and evidence. We plan work around occupants and hand over a record for every door.
Why frames fail inspections
Many fire door problems start with the frame: softwood linings too thin for the door, frames cut back to fit a previous door, frames loose in the wall, or gaps behind the architrave stuffed with ordinary foam or left open. A perfect leaf hung in a frame like that cannot be relied on.
Rules and responsibilities in Ayrshire
In Ayrshire, fire doors are specified against Scotland's Technical Handbooks (Section 2: Fire) under the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004, rather than Approved Document B. Duties in non-domestic premises come from the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
England's regulation 10 does not apply in Scotland. We follow the building's fire risk assessment and, where building work needs a warrant, the local authority's requirements.

Common questions
Do you provide fire door frames across Ayrshire?
Yes. We cover all of Ayrshire, including Kilmarnock and Ayr. Surveys and written quotes are free.
Can I use expanding foam around a fire door frame?
Only a fire-rated foam with evidence for that use and gap size. Ordinary expanding foam is not suitable.
What is the frame-to-wall gap?
It is the space between the door frame and the surrounding wall, normally hidden by the architrave. If it is not filled with a suitable fire-resisting material, fire and smoke can pass around the door.
