FD60 fire doors: our service in Dyfed
Our FD60 fire doors service covers all of Dyfed, across postcode districts including SA14, SY25 and SA44.
Before ordering FD60 doors for a Dyfed building, we check the rating each opening actually needs, because over-specifying makes doors heavier and dearer. For FD60 work in Dyfed we generally fit certified doorsets, so frame and leaf share the same test evidence.
Fire door work in Dyfed spans housing providers with large estates, individual landlords, businesses and homeowners. We price every job from a survey, never from a list price alone, because the condition of the frames and the hardware makes a real difference.
When does a building need FD60 rather than FD30?
FD60 doors appear where the fire strategy asks a wall to resist fire for an hour: stair cores and lobbies in taller buildings, plant and boiler rooms, some service risers, refuse stores and compartment walls between different uses. The rating follows the wall. Fitting an FD30 door in a 60-minute wall leaves a weak point, and fitting FD60 everywhere wastes money and makes doors harder to open.
We work from your fire strategy, the building's drawings or the fire risk assessment. Where these disagree with what is on site, we flag it before ordering.
The regulations behind fire doors in Dyfed
Dyfed is in Wales, where new and replacement fire doors are covered by the Building Regulations 2010 as applied in Wales, with the Welsh Approved Document B as guidance. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 also applies, so responsible persons in workplaces and the common parts of blocks must keep fire doors maintained.
One difference from England: regulation 10 of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, with its quarterly and annual fire door checks, does not apply in Wales. Your fire risk assessment sets the checking regime instead, and we work to it.
The steps on a Dyfed installation
- Confirm the 60-minute requirement against the fire strategy
- Survey structure, opening size and wall type
- Order the certified doorset with ironmongery to its evidence
- Install the frame, fix and seal it to the structure
- Hang, adjust and test the leaf, closer and latching
- Record evidence and make good

Questions
Do you provide FD60 fire doors across Dyfed?
Yes. We cover all of Dyfed, including Llanelli and Ammanford. Surveys and written quotes are free.
Do FD60 doors need smoke seals?
If the fire strategy asks for smoke control, yes: the door will be specified as FD60S or E60Sa with smoke seals. Many plant room doors are FD60 without a smoke requirement.
Is FD60 just a thicker FD30?
No. FD60 doors are built and tested as a different product, usually with a thicker core, different seals and different ironmongery. Only the tested combination carries the 60-minute rating.
