What riser and cupboard fire doors in Cardiff should include
When you book riser and cupboard fire doors in Cardiff, the aim is simple: doors that close, latch and seal as tested, with records that prove it.
Buildings in and around Cardiff range from student accommodation to clinics and mixed-use office buildings. Whatever the building, the standard is the same: certified products, correct gaps, seals and closers, and a frame sealed to the wall.
We match riser doors in Cardiff to the rating of the riser enclosure, not to whatever was there before. While fitting riser doors in Cardiff, we photograph any gaps in fire stopping we can see and pass them on to you.
The fire stopping behind the door
The door is only half the picture. Inside the riser, the services passing through each floor must be fire stopped. That is a separate specialist task. Where we find gaps or missing fire stopping while fitting riser doors, we record it and flag it to you so it can be addressed.
On a typical job that means:
- Fire-rated riser and cupboard doorsets
- Record of any fire stopping concerns found
- Signage as required
- Seals and frame gap sealing
Rules and responsibilities in Cardiff
Fire door work in Cardiff follows Welsh building regulations and the Welsh Approved Document B. The Fire Safety Order 2005 covers workplaces and the shared parts of residential buildings here too, placing the duty on the responsible person.
The English regulation 10 checking regime does not extend to Cardiff, so how often doors are checked comes from the fire risk assessment. We hand over evidence that fits whatever regime your assessor sets.

Common questions
Is Cardiff within your coverage area?
It is. We cover Cardiff in South Glamorgan and neighbouring towns such as Penarth. There is no charge for the survey.
What happens on a survey in Cardiff?
We look at every door in scope: the leaf, frame, gaps, seals, hinges, closer, glazing and how the frame is fixed. You then get a written quote that prices each door separately.
Can I use a standard access panel for a riser?
Only if it is a fire-rated product with evidence for the wall rating. Many ordinary access panels and cupboard doors are not fire rated.
What rating should a riser door be?
It should match the fire resistance the strategy requires for the riser enclosure, commonly 30 or 60 minutes. We confirm it before ordering.
