Glazed fire doors: our service in Ayrshire
Across Ayrshire, from Kilmarnock to Ayr, we survey, supply and fit glazed fire doors for homes, blocks of flats and workplaces.
When a vision panel breaks in a Ayrshire building, we re-glaze it to the door's original glazing system rather than a near match. Schools, offices and care settings in Ayrshire often need vision panels, and each one has to use fire-rated glass in a tested system.
Fire door work in Ayrshire spans housing providers with large estates, individual landlords, businesses and homeowners. We price every job from a survey, never from a list price alone, because the condition of the frames and the hardware makes a real difference.
Why glazing is a common failure point
Vision panels are useful on corridors, classrooms and wards, but they are also where many fire doors go wrong. Ordinary glass gets swapped in after a breakage, beads are fixed with the wrong pins, glazing seals are missing, or an aperture has been cut on site with no evidence behind it. Each of these can undermine the whole door. Our fire door glazing guide covers the details.
Rules and responsibilities in Ayrshire
Scottish rules apply to fire doors in Ayrshire. The Technical Handbooks under the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 set the standard for new and altered doors, and the local authority issues building warrants where they are needed. Workplaces and other non-domestic premises are covered by the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.
Residential common parts in Ayrshire are treated differently from England, so we check the fire risk assessment and any landlord or factor requirements before specifying work.

Questions
Do you provide glazed fire doors across Ayrshire?
Yes. We cover all of Ayrshire, including Kilmarnock and Ayr. Surveys and written quotes are free.
What happens if the glass in a fire door breaks?
It should be re-glazed with the same fire-rated glass and glazing system as the original. A temporary board or standard glass leaves the door non-compliant.
Can any toughened glass go in a fire door?
No. Fire doors need fire-rated glass of the type and size covered by the door's test evidence, fitted with the matching beads and seals. Standard toughened glass is not fire resisting.
