Integral garage fire doors: our service in Chelmsford
From the CM1 postcode district outwards, we take on integral garage fire doors across Chelmsford for homes, blocks and workplaces.
Buildings in and around Chelmsford range from industrial units to purpose-built flats and GP surgeries. Whatever the building, the standard is the same: certified products, correct gaps, seals and closers, and a frame sealed to the wall.
We fit garage fire doors in Chelmsford with closers set to shut gently, so they work without slamming. If you are selling a home in Chelmsford, we can leave product details for your solicitor along with the door.
What we fit
We fit a certified FD30S doorset or leaf with intumescent and smoke seals, a self-closer set to close and latch the door without slamming, and a threshold detail that keeps the smoke seal effective. We can match the style of your other internal doors where the certified range allows.
As standard, the work covers:
- Threshold detailing for smoke control
- Certified FD30S door or doorset
- Survey of the opening, threshold and step
- Product details for building control or your solicitor
What the rules say for Chelmsford
The rules that apply to fire doors in Chelmsford are England's. The responsible person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 must keep fire doors in non-domestic premises and the common parts of flats in working order; the Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed that this includes flat entrance doors onto common parts.
Where a Chelmsford block is above 11 metres, regulation 10 of the 2022 regulations means communal doors are checked every three months and flat entrance doors annually on a best-endeavours basis. Replacement doors must also satisfy the Building Regulations, with Approved Document B as the guidance most building control bodies work from.
Where integral garage fire doors fit in Chelmsford
Typical settings for integral garage fire doors include homes being extended, new-build homes and homes being sold. In Chelmsford, as elsewhere, the work is usually commissioned by homeowners, often alongside a builder or after a building control visit, so we fit around the household and leave the product details building control asks for.

Questions
Do you cover CM1 and nearby postcodes?
Yes. We cover Chelmsford including CM1, and nearby towns such as Billericay and Witham. The survey and written quote are free.
What happens on a survey in Chelmsford?
We look at every door in scope: the leaf, frame, gaps, seals, hinges, closer, glazing and how the frame is fixed. You then get a written quote that prices each door separately.
Does the garage door need a closer?
Building control will normally expect the door between an integral garage and the house to be self-closing. We fit closers that shut and latch the door gently.
Can it match my other doors?
Often, yes. Many certified ranges include panelled and flush styles in finishes that blend with standard internal doors.
