FD60 fire doors: our service in Merthyr Tydfil

Fire doors in Merthyr Tydfil protect escape routes in houses with integral garages, care homes and family homes after loft conversions alike. We adapt the programme to the building and its occupants, never the standard of the installation.
FD60 openings in Merthyr Tydfil buildings tend to be stair cores, plant rooms and bin stores in larger blocks and commercial premises. Before ordering FD60 doors for a Merthyr Tydfil building, we check the rating each opening actually needs, because over-specifying makes doors heavier and dearer.
What do you hand over at the end?
For every FD60 opening we record the product and certificate reference, the gap measurements, the hinge and closer specification, how the frame was fixed and what was used to seal the frame-to-structure gap, with photographs before the architraves go on. That record is what your fire risk assessor or building control officer will ask for.
Each installation includes:
- Intumescent and smoke seals as specified
- Load-rated hinges and correctly powered closer
- Frame fixing and structural gap sealing recorded with photos
- Certified FD60 doorset or leaf with matching evidence
Fire door law for Merthyr Tydfil properties
Because Merthyr Tydfil is in Wales, we work to the Building Regulations as they apply in Wales and to the Welsh version of Approved Document B. The responsible person duties under the Fire Safety Order 2005 still apply to workplaces and common parts.
England's fire door checking rules for tall residential buildings do not apply in Wales, so the checking frequency for doors in Merthyr Tydfil comes from your fire risk assessment.
Who needs FD60 fire doors in Merthyr Tydfil?
The need for FD60 fire doors usually arises in refuse stores or plant and boiler rooms, and sometimes stair cores in taller blocks. Each has its own pressures, such as residents at home or a building that must stay open, so we plan the sequence of work in Merthyr Tydfil to keep escape routes protected throughout.

Common questions
Do you cover CF47 and nearby postcodes?
Yes. We cover Merthyr Tydfil including CF47, and nearby towns such as Aberdare and Rhondda. The survey and written quote are free.
Do I need to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to give us access to the doors. For blocks and commercial buildings, a caretaker or site contact is fine; for HMOs and homes, we agree a time with you or your tenants.
Can I upgrade an FD30 door to FD60?
Not by adding parts. An FD30 leaf cannot be turned into an FD60 door with extra strips or paint. If an opening needs 60 minutes, the leaf, and usually the frame, need to be replaced with a certified FD60 product.
Do FD60 doors need smoke seals?
If the fire strategy asks for smoke control, yes: the door will be specified as FD60S or E60Sa with smoke seals. Many plant room doors are FD60 without a smoke requirement.
